Fauci wrote in an article dated March 26, 2020 in the NEJM:
“If one assumes that the number of asymptomatic or minimally symptomatic cases is several times as high as the number of reported cases, the case fatality rate may be considerably less than 1%. This suggests that the overall clinical consequences of Covid-19 may ultimately be more akin to those of a severe seasonal influenza (which has a case fatality rate of approximately 0.1%) or a pandemic influenza (similar to those in 1957 and 1968) rather than a disease similar to SARS or MERS, which have had case fatality rates of 9 to 10% and 36%, respectively.“
So corrupt is much of the medical establishment now, however, that for saying exactly what Dr. Fauci said, another doctor, Dr. Scott Jensen of Minnesota, is being investigated by his state medical board for misinformation.
A common confusion is between the IFR and the CFR, the case fatality rate, which may be about 3%, much higher. But this is the number of deaths divided by the number of known, tested cases. This is an entirely different number. People seeking to understand the real fatality rate of COVID should be aware of some using this in attempts to confuse.
The IFR is Yuge. It means we are locking down and destroying our economy over what amount to a common flu. It is true that rare severe cases of COVID that put you in the hospital can have serious after-effects. But this is true of any serious case of a respiratory disease, including flu.
To be precise, the CDC survival rate for COVID is at latest estimate about 99.8% overall, but 99.9% and much, much higher for most ages. The Bloomberg chart is the best way to get a handle on it.
So why have so may people died? It may be not so much a matter of how many people died, but why it has been fanned into the panic that it has been fanned into. In 1957-1958 as many people died, per capita, in a different pandemic, and it was never reported in the news. Nevermind used to scare healthy people to death and establish what is moving into totalitarian fascism.
In 1968 a similarly severe pandemic hit the US and the world, and absolutely nothing was shut down. It was barely even reported. The next summer, only a few month after the tapering off of case, we had Woodstock, the largest single gathering of people in US history.
No one says a bad case of COVID is not serious, but that is not what this is about. Since governors and health officials can read fatality rates as well as anyone else, the corruption over what is not a very deadly disease is deep. Americans, and the world, have little time to start asking questions, loudly, before all dissent of any kind is once and for all extinguished.
