Yes it was un-American. Yes it was unprecedented. But we were told we had no choice. We had to “flatten the curve” of an exponentially growing threat, if Dr. Anthony Fauci were to be believed.
Now the curve is “flattened,” and the nation’s health care systems never came close to being overwhelmed, even in New York. In New York City, the hospital ship Mercy sat in New York Harbor, before sailing away with a grand total of 22 of its thousand beds being used.
Incredibly, the numbers warning of up to 2 million dead in the US turned out to be bogus, made up by disgraced scientist Neil Ferguson of Imperial College, who has now been called by colleagues one of the “most wrong” scientists in the world.
Why hasn’t this been reported on CNN or NBC? The quotes and the names of the scientists are right there. Surely they can be called for interviews to talk about Ferguson. It might not change anyone’s mind, but surely it is important, given that the worst unemployment numbers in modern history are the result of believing one discredited paper reflecting the views of one discredited scientist.
After reams of data rolling in, the real mortality rate of the virus which kills by complications such as pneumonia in weak patients, is similar to that of the ordinary flu. 25% as opposed to .1%. This is far below the Doomsday predictions of 2% to 6% originally feared. A state-by-state examination shows that in 2018, in most states many more died of that year’s bad flu season than have died of the coronavirus.
Yet the march toward a permanent police state undreamed of by even Orwell continues unabated, with contact tracing, mandatory quarantines, and mandatory digital vaccination certificates required for a vaccine which many fear will not be safe.
in 1968 – 1969, when 100,000 died in the US of the Hong Kong Flu, and also in 1957 when 116,000 died in the US in the H2N2 virus pandemic, no states of emergency were declared.
The population of the US in those times was 200 million versus 300 million today, many fewer people. The equivalent back then of 100,000 people dying in the US would be a death toll of 150,000 people today. Yet there were no lockdowns, no social distancing, no 24/7 media reports on daily death numbers or case numbers.
In August of 1969, a few months after that deadly season ended, young people were celebrating life at Woodstock.
Last year during the 2018 – 2019 flu season, the CDC reports that 80,000 people died in the US, with an estimated 50 million cases. Despite this was bare mention of the epidemic on the news, and life went on as normal in every respect with no national emergency declared, no lockdowns, no masks, no social distancing, and no pronouncements taking it as a given that henceforth, contact tracing and the suspension of rights would be a necessity.
Worldwide, WHO reports that up to 650,000 die each year of seasonal flu, compared to about 350,000 so far of COVID-19, if official numbers are to be believed. That is a lot of death, with not so much as a single declared state of national emergency. There is ample reason for the numbers not to be believed, as doctors grouse that they are being pressured to categorize deaths as COVID whenever possible.
The purpose of the State of Emergency has been fulfilled, if there was ever any real need for it in the first place. The Hong Kong Flu of 1968 was also not completely understood, but it was determined, correctly, that it would behave like any other virulent respiratory disease. The same goes for the 1957 H2N2 pandemic.
What we have witnessed, that is unique and unusual, is a relentless media “panic porn” campaign which scares the daylights out of any person with a TV on, and demands that we give up our most basic rights.
All based on the now discredited models of “Professor Lockdown,” Neil Ferguson.
In the initial days of the unfolding pandemic, it was feared that the US would run a shortage of a crucial piece of equipment for the most critical hospitalized cases of COVID-19, ventilators. Now we are so well-positioned we are shipping 8,000 of them abroad to other countries.
It is time for President Trump to lift the “National Emergency Concerning the Novel Coronavirus Disease.” This is what has given some US governors the authority exercise what may have always been their wildest dream, absolute power, under a halo’s glow of doing good. Even as people die from what they deem merely “elective surgeries,” or despair at perceived permanent unemployment, or lose their teeth for lack of what a tyrant declares “non-essential” dental care. Tyrants do not hear the cries of those they are harming, oblivious basking in their own glory.
It is time to stop the perverse system of incentives which pay hospitals more for diagnosing patients as COVID and placing them on a ventilator.
Withdrawing the National State of Emergency may not stop governors from implementing draconian orders, but it would deny them moral authority, and force them to justify each and every measure. In short, it would put them where they belong: on the run. No more talk of removing children or family members from their own homes based on possibly false positive tests for COVID.
The time has come to continue sheltering the vulnerable and let nature’s powerful answer to viruses take its course, our own immune systems. As Dr. David Katz, founding director of the Yale-Griffin Prevention Research Center explains in the New York Times article “Is Our Fight Against Coronavirus Worse Than the Disease?”:
“robust immune response also prevents transmission. If a germ can’t secure its hold on your body, your body no longer serves as a vector to send it forward to the next potential host. This is true even if that next person is not yet immune. When enough of us represent such “dead ends” for viral transmission, spread through the population is blunted, and eventually terminated. This is called herd immunity.”
It’s time, Mr. President. Attorney General Barr has said he would closely monitor the governors for Constitutional abuses, but our Constitution lies in tatters. Lift the National Emergency, and show you are truly for the people. Or give credence to those who say you are part and parcel of the elites, and will in the end deliver us, trusting, to enemies of humanity.
